When to Use Well and In-Ground Landscape Lights

Well and in-ground lights are useful when you want uplighting without a prominent fixture above grade. They can illuminate trees, columns, walls, facades and landscape features while keeping sightlines clean. Fixture construction, trim style and optic choice should match the installation environment and the lighting effect.

Drainage, Location Rating and Glare

Drainage is a critical part of an in-ground installation. Use the product only in locations allowed by its manufacturer rating, and do not assume that an in-ground fixture is suitable for continuous submersion unless it is specifically listed for that use. Louvers, shields and directional optics can reduce glare when the light source is near walkways, seating areas or normal viewing angles.

MR16 or Integrated LED?

Lamp-ready well lights can provide serviceability and allow compatible MR16 lamps to be changed for different output, color temperature or beam spread. Integrated LED designs package the light source and optics as a complete fixture. Compare the application, service needs and manufacturer specifications, then connect the fixtures to the appropriate landscape lighting transformer, low-voltage wire and connectors.
