Unique FLEX GOLD Replacement Lamps: How to Choose

RSS

Start a Unique landscape-lighting bulb replacement with the fixture and lamp model—not wattage alone. FLEX GOLD includes several lamp formats and generations. A replacement needs to match the socket, physical space, supply requirements and intended lighting effect.

This guide helps you narrow the Unique FLEX GOLD LED lamp selection without treating every Unique fixture as interchangeable.

Identify the existing lamp and fixture

Record the full fixture SKU and the code on the installed lamp before ordering. Photograph the base, reflector or capsule, and any label that identifies voltage and power. If the fixture is marked NL or no lamp, use its specification sheet to identify the required source. The fixture family name by itself may not identify lamp inclusion or every configuration.

For an older installation, distinguish the original lamp specification from a later replacement someone may have fitted. A working lamp is useful evidence, but the fixture's documented requirements remain the starting point.

MR16, MR11, PAR36 or G4/T3?

Format Selection question What to verify
MR16 Is this the required reflector size for the directional fixture? Base, lamp dimensions, voltage, beam and enclosure requirements.
MR11 Does the compact housing require the smaller reflector? Do not substitute MR16 simply because both are reflector lamps.
PAR36 Does the well light or larger accent fixture specify PAR36? Terminal arrangement, housing fit, power and beam.
G4/T3 Does the path, deck or other compact fixture specify this capsule and base? Pin spacing, capsule dimensions, voltage and required lamp quantity.

MR16 and MR11 describe different reflector sizes; those names alone do not establish operating voltage. T3 describes a bulb envelope while G4 identifies a base, so the terms are not universal substitutes. Our T3 vs. G4 guide explains that distinction. For larger directional sources, read MR16 vs. PAR36 landscape lighting.

Choose the beam for the subject

A narrow beam can concentrate light on a trunk or column. A wider beam covers more of a canopy or wall at the same distance, but the result also depends on output and aiming. Read the numerical beam angle: labels such as spot and flood do not guarantee identical coverage across lamp generations.

Compare Unique MR16 LED bulbs after confirming the format. Use our MR16 spot-versus-flood guide for coverage planning, and test the result after dark from the main viewing positions.

Match color temperature and controls

For a consistent white-light installation, match the listed color temperature of adjacent lamps. A fixed-white lamp provides its specified appearance; tunable white lets you change white-light color temperature. RGB adds colored scenes. These are separate capabilities.

Choose FLEX GOLD VIVID lamps when the application calls for compatible wireless lamp control. Read our Unique VIVID RGB, tunable-white and extender guide before mixing models or generations. Do not assume that every FLEX GOLD lamp uses the same app or dimming method.

Check voltage, VA and the enclosure

Confirm the exact lamp's AC or DC requirements, operating range and fixture power limit. Where Unique supplies a VA rating for transformer sizing, use it rather than assuming watts and VA are equal. Add the complete connected load and follow the transformer's total and circuit limits. A lower-wattage LED retrofit does not remove the need to check controls or voltage at the fixtures.

Outdoor suitability can depend on an enclosed fixture. Preserve the correct lens, seals and cover arrangement; a replacement bulb does not upgrade the housing's environmental rating. Follow the fixture's access and relamping instructions, isolate power and allow the lamp to cool before servicing.

Build the replacement order

  • Record fixture SKU, lamp SKU and quantity per fixture.
  • Confirm format, base, dimensions and electrical requirements.
  • Select beam angle and white-light or color-control function.
  • Check lamp inclusion on any new fixture order.
  • Confirm transformer load and required accessories.

Browse Unique accent lights, Unique downlights and Unique well lights when replacing the housing as well as the lamp. For help identifying an older configuration, provide photographs and the complete codes so the comparison is based on the actual equipment.
