Corona Fiat Lux RGBW Fixtures: Bluetooth, Wi-Fi & Zones

RSS

Corona Fiat Lux RGB-WW fixtures combine color-changing landscape lighting, tunable white and dimming with Bluetooth Mesh control. Use the Corona BT App to adjust a single fixture or a group. Add the CX-BTG-2 Wi-Fi gateway for internet-based control away from home, and use CX-BTE range extenders where the outdoor Bluetooth network needs better coverage.

The integrated fixture range gives designers options for accents, floods, paths, steps and architectural details. Start with Corona landscape lighting, then plan fixture placement, power and wireless coverage together.

How the Fiat Lux system works

Separate the system into three jobs: the transformer supplies low-voltage power, Bluetooth carries local control commands, and the optional gateway connects the lighting network to home Wi-Fi for remote access.

Component What it does Planning point
Fiat Lux RGB-WW fixture Produces white or colored light with app adjustment Match beam, output, finish and operating voltage to the location
Compatible landscape transformer Powers fixtures and wired accessories Size for connected load and verify voltage under load
Corona BT App Controls supported fixtures individually or in groups Name devices by location during setup
CX-BTE range extender Helps bridge Bluetooth communication gaps Connect to the compatible 12V system and add to the same app account
CX-BTG-2 gateway Connects Bluetooth Mesh to Wi-Fi for remote cloud access Install indoors with USB power, Wi-Fi and a usable Bluetooth signal path outdoors

Wireless control does not mean wireless power. Fixtures still need proper cable, connections and a compatible supply. A range extender improves communication; it does not correct voltage drop or increase transformer capacity.

RGB-WW fixtures are also tunable white

Fiat Lux is useful for normal evenings as well as colored scenes. You can select a warmer white near outdoor seating and a crisper white on a chosen architectural feature, then adjust brightness separately.

For example, Corona’s CL-400-BT guide identifies white presets of 2700K, 3000K, 4000K and 5000K, along with a control for adjusting white appearance. The same guide provides color, dimming, individual control and grouping. Check each fixture’s documentation for its supported settings rather than assigning the 2200–5700K specification of certain Corona replacement lamps to every integrated fixture.

Our design approach is to establish a coordinated white-light scene first. Make paths and entrances comfortable to use, control glare, and choose a few features for color. A subtle difference between 2700K and 3000K may achieve the desired contrast without making neighboring areas look disconnected.

Individual dimming and lighting zones

Individual control lets you reduce one bright accent without changing all the lights on its cable. Grouping lets you operate an area together: “Front Trees,” “Patio,” “Garden Wall” or “Side Path.” A lighting group in the app is not the same thing as an electrical circuit.

For an evening entertaining scene, the patio accents might use low-level warm white while a background tree receives a restrained color. For a holiday scene, change selected trees and walls while keeping useful white light along walking routes. Balance the result after dark; identical percentage settings on different fixtures do not necessarily produce equal illumination.

Use the supported app controls for tuning. Do not assume an upstream dimmer can be added to smart fixtures without checking compatibility.

CX-BTG-2 Wi-Fi gateway: control the lights away from home

The Corona CX-BTG-2 gateway bridges the Fiat Lux Bluetooth network to home Wi-Fi. Corona’s current guide specifies remote cloud control, advanced scheduling and automations, plus Alexa and Google Home integration. Remote operation requires the gateway, internet connection and lighting equipment to remain powered and connected.

This model supports 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi and up to 128 connected devices. It uses USB-C power with a power brick; it is not wired to the landscape cable like the range extender.

Place the gateway indoors near a suitable window or door, where it can communicate with the outdoor system. Corona’s setup guide suggests approximately 40–50 feet from a CX-BTE or 20 feet from an outdoor BT fixture, with placement on the lower level of a two-story home. Treat these as setup guidance, not guaranteed distances through every building material.

Commission the fixtures in the app, then associate them with the gateway. Simply powering the gateway does not complete fixture setup. Follow the CX-BTG-2 quick-start guide for the current sequence.

CX-BTE range extender: wired into the 12V system

The Corona CX-BTE Bluetooth Mesh range extender is a low-voltage accessory installed outdoors to help bridge gaps between compatible devices. Corona specifies a 9–17V operating range, 1W consumption and a 5-foot lead. It connects into the compatible lighting system using waterproof connectors.

Add it to the same Corona BT account as the fixtures. Place it where it can communicate with the devices on both sides of a gap, rather than at the far end where reception is already lost. Corona allows multiple extenders on one account. Open placement and suitable elevation can improve the signal path.

The supplied ground spike provides one mounting option. Follow Corona’s placement and mounting instructions, then test the completed installation. Walls, terrain and other obstructions affect results; an advertised maximum range is not a promise for every yard.

Gateway versus extender: the gateway provides the internet connection; the extender supports outdoor Bluetooth coverage. Some projects benefit from both. See the CX-BTE installation guide.

Choose the integrated fixture for the job

Choose shape and optics for the target before choosing a colored scene. The control system cannot make a broad flood behave like a narrow spotlight.

Application Fiat Lux examples Selection advice
Trees and architectural accents CL-404-BT flat-shroud accent; CL-406-BT long-shroud accent Compare beam coverage and shielding from normal viewing positions
Broad walls or planting CL-400-BT flood Use a broad distribution where an even wash suits the surface
Paths and garden beds CL-654-BT large-cone area light; CL-744-BT single-head path light Compare shade, height and light distribution before deciding spacing
Steps and masonry CL-345-BT step light; CL-395-BT brick light Confirm the mounting opening and keep the visible source controlled
Rails and linear details CL-450-BT rail light Match attachment hardware and aiming to the surface

The CL-404-BT, for example, includes a standard 38° optic with 15° and 60° options. The CL-400-BT uses a broad 120° distribution. Both are integrated fixtures with manufacturer-described replaceable modules. “Integrated” does not necessarily mean the light source is permanently unserviceable; replacements must still match the exact fixture.

Finish options: match the exact fixture

Finish availability varies across the family. Corona lists the brass CL-400-BT and CL-404-BT in Antique Bronze (AB) and Gun Metal (GM). The CL-654-BT area light is listed in Antique Bronze, while the CL-450-BT rail light uses a Black finish on brass.

Use Antique Bronze where a warmer metal appearance suits the landscape, or a darker finish where the fixture should recede beside planting or architectural trim. This is a design preference, not a claim that one finish performs better. Check the full SKU and coordinate visible fixtures before ordering; do not assume every style comes in every finish.

Corona Fiat Lux vs. WAC Colorscaping vs. LumienPRO

These are different control systems. Compare how you want to operate and maintain the property, not just whether each product can produce red, green and blue.

When Corona Fiat Lux makes sense

Consider Fiat Lux when you want app-adjustable integrated fixtures with outdoor Bluetooth coverage accessories and an optional internet gateway. It gives you a route from nearby phone control to off-site access while retaining the Corona ecosystem.

When to compare WAC Colorscaping

WAC is worth comparing when you want a coordinated smart-transformer system with individual fixture control, scenes and scheduling. WAC also documents WallStation and DMX control options. Its legacy connections can control suitable existing lights as a group; they do not turn ordinary lamps into individually color-changing fixtures. Read our WAC Colorscaping planning guide.

When to compare LumienPRO modules and fixtures

LumienPRO suits projects where a handheld remote and modular fixture selection are priorities. Its current remote documentation explicitly describes operation without apps, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. Do not assume it provides Corona-style cloud access or the same app zoning.

Choose the module carefully: some Lumien RGBW products have a specified white temperature, while RGBTW products combine color with tunable white. One example is the Z9B1-10W-A Macro variant, listed with 2700–5700K white capability. A TW-only module is not the same as an RGBTW module. Verify housing compatibility and supported remote functions for the complete assembly.

No part of this comparison implies that the three brands share gateways, remotes, modules or apps.

Integrated fixtures or RGBW drop-in lamps?

Choose integrated Fiat Lux fixtures when you need the complete housing, optics and mounting arrangement. Choose compatible drop-in lamps when the existing housings are serviceable and you want to add color or adjustable white without replacing them.

Our RGBW landscape lamp buying guide compares MR16, G4 and PAR36 options. If your priority is white-light appearance rather than colored scenes, read Tunable White Landscape Lamps: Color, Dimming & Zones.

For shopping, compare RGBW replacement lamps and tunable white lamps. Confirm electrical, physical and control compatibility for each retrofit.

Plan power, communication and commissioning together

  1. Lay out the light. Choose targets, fixture styles, beams, mounts and finishes. Review sightlines to control glare.
  2. Calculate the electrical load. Use the exact fixtures’ manufacturer load data, including VA where supplied, and include powered accessories. Size for full supported operation rather than an assumed dimmed scene.
  3. Plan the signal path. Locate the indoor gateway if needed and identify gaps that may need CX-BTE extenders.
  4. Install sound connections. Disconnect power before wiring and use connectors appropriate for the cable and environment. Verify operating voltage at the fixtures under load.
  5. Commission local control first. Add and name fixtures and extenders, then create useful groups. Associate devices with the gateway for remote access.
  6. Test normal use. Confirm white and color scenes, brightness, power restoration and remote operation. Coordinate transformer schedules so devices have power when control is needed.

Leave the owner with app access, fixture names and an everyday scene. Record the installed models and accessory locations so future service or expansion does not begin with guesswork.

Frequently asked questions

Can I control Corona Fiat Lux from anywhere?

With the compatible CX-BTG-2 gateway configured for internet access, you can control the system remotely where connectivity is available. Local Bluetooth alone does not provide off-site access.

Does the range extender connect to the 12V lighting cable?

Yes. The CX-BTE connects into a compatible low-voltage system using waterproof connections and operates within its specified 9–17V range. Add it to the same Corona BT account as the fixtures.

Can I dim one fixture without dimming the whole yard?

Yes. Supported Fiat Lux fixtures can be controlled individually or grouped in the app. Grouping is a control setting, not a change to the electrical wiring.

Can RGB-WW fixtures provide normal white landscape lighting?

Yes. The fixtures discussed provide adjustable white as well as color. Select an appropriate white setting and brightness for everyday use, then use color when desired.

Do I need both the gateway and range extender?

They serve different purposes. Choose the gateway for off-site access and compatible online features; use extenders where Bluetooth coverage needs help. A site may need either or both.
