Recessed or surface-mounted?
Check cutout dimensions, installation depth, wiring access and any required back box before choosing a recessed model. Surface-mounted fixtures can suit other mounting details, but still need an appropriate surface and cable route. Verify the complete fixture dimensions rather than relying on the faceplate size alone.
Choose comfortable stair lighting
Compare the direction of light, brightness and finish from both approaches to the stairs. There is no universal fixture spacing or mounting height for every staircase. Review the selected model's distribution and test the layout before committing to quantity.

Match voltage and controls
Check the exact SKU's input rating before ordering. Low voltage, 120V and Colorscaping versions have different power and control requirements. Colorscaping fixtures require the compatible Colorscaping system; do not select a transformer solely by wattage.
