Landscape Lighting Zone Controllers

Control different areas of your yard independently with landscape lighting zone controllers and smart transformers. Keep entry paths illuminated, switch off decorative uplighting earlier, or adjust patio lighting for an evening outdoors. Compare Brilliance, LetZgo and Vista options for low voltage lighting control, with scheduling, app access and dimming available on selected models.

Choose the right zone control for your landscape lighting

An add-on zone controller can divide the output of a compatible transformer into separately controlled lighting circuits. A smart landscape lighting transformer combines the power supply and control system in one unit. Choose between them based on your existing equipment, the number of zones you need and how you want to operate each area.

  • Brilliance Sector Selector: Create four independently controlled zones from a compatible transformer and manage schedules through the Brilliance Smart App. Choose it for zone switching and scheduling; it does not provide dimming.
  • LetZgo AC-LV3ZC: A three-zone controller with independent dimming and mode controls. It interfaces with compatible home automation or irrigation controllers; app operation depends on the connected control system.
  • Vista LCS-150: A Wi-Fi lighting control system for managing your landscape lighting. Review the model’s wiring, load capacity and compatible lamp requirements when planning your installation.
  • Vista TCS-150 and TCS-300: Smart transformers with three controlled zones and a separate always-on Smart Zone. Compare the 150W and 300W total capacities for your lighting layout.

Plan your lighting zones around how you use your yard

Group fixtures by purpose: front entrance and paths, garden accents, outdoor seating, or architectural features. Separate circuits let you give each area its own operating pattern when supported by the controller. For example, decorative tree lighting can switch off after entertaining while a pathway zone stays on longer.

What to check before choosing a low voltage lighting controller

  • Zone count: Count the independently controlled circuits you need. An always-on output is different from a scheduled or dimmable zone.
  • Electrical compatibility: Match the controller’s input and output requirements to the transformer and fixtures. Check AC/DC requirements and lamp compatibility for the exact model.
  • Load capacity: Check each zone’s limit and the total system limit. Adding zones does not increase the transformer’s available power.
  • Dimming: Choose a controller with dimming support and compatible dimmable lamps. Switching-only controllers cannot add dimming to the system.
  • Control method: Compare direct app control with interfaces that require a separate automation controller. For Wi-Fi equipment, confirm the required network and signal coverage at the installation location.

Landscape lighting zone control questions

Can one transformer power multiple lighting zones?

Yes, when paired with a compatible zone controller and suitable wiring. The combined load must remain within the transformer’s capacity, and each circuit must stay within its controller rating.

Can I add zones to an existing lighting system?

Often, but independent control requires separately connected lighting circuits. Fixtures on one shared cable run cannot automatically become separate zones just by adding a controller. Review the wiring layout before choosing equipment.

Is a zone controller the same as a timer?

A timer sets operating times. A zone controller separates lighting circuits for independent operation; some models also include scheduling and dimming. For simpler whole-system scheduling, browse landscape lighting timers and controllers. For power supplies, explore landscape lighting transformers.
